I have heard many times that there are two kinds of people in the world. There are dog people. There are cat people. Apparently, there are no people people. Ask an introvert like me and we would probably agree. It seems as though people prefer dogs and cats more and more these days.
We Get Set In Our Ways
People get set in their ways. That is the problem with boomers. We get set in our ways. I grew up in a dog house. Not a literal dog house. I was raised with dog lovers in a dog house. Furthermore, cats were despised, the offspring of Satan himself. I’m not sure where all of the hatred came from, but I do have an idea where some of it came from.
That Fateful Sunday Afternoon
My dad was a Baptist preacher and a dog person. (I will write more about that later when I have spent a little more time in therapy.) On one of those Sundays we went to a church member’s house for Sunday dinner, they had a cat. Dad set his suit jacket down on the couch and the cat quickly proceeded to “mark” it. Consequently, cat pee was the last straw.
The Tide Has Turned
Amy and I have been married for 39 years. Up until recently, there have been zero cats. Alas, I left town last summer unaccompanied by my bride. I was walking down Las Vegas Boulevard when all of the sudden, I got a text. Imagine my shock and surprise when she texted me to say that a cat had shown up on our porch and had to be taken in.
Jones
Jones is our cat, and furthermore she is amazing! What has become apparent to me is that I have loved our dogs and I love our cat. Apparently, I don’t like other dogs or cats or people. Suddenly, I feel smarter for owning a cat. In effect, the world has two kinds of people and apparently, I am now one of the smarter ones. Science.
You are correct , sir.
