The Intent Was to Be Funny, Subtle, and Sarcastic

The intent of the blog was to be funny, subtle, contemplative and sarcastic. With every passing week, I find myself wanting to tackle topics that are tired and worn yet still pertinent. Today I wander into the crucible of the blogosphere. I am 60 years old. My natural inclination as a Boomer is to tell you to get off my lawn. My grandson would call me a Karen if my gender matched the dis, the burn, the joan. In reality, I am a pretty open minded old evangelical despite the many strong convictions that I hold, nonetheless I am a preacher and this may get preachy.

The Politicization Must Stop

The politicization in America must stop. We are without shame. We will take the most abhorrent events and try to use them for the benefit of our viewpoint. The thought that we would take a pandemic, a school shooting, or someone’s mental health and try to use it to further our idea or our cause disgusts me. We care more about winning than we do about the right to follow Jesus, the right to be an atheist, or the right to free speech. Politicization has become our god in America. Politics have become our religion and America’s new pastime. Things were better when we passed the time with Willie, Mickey, and the Duke.

Off the Rails

When we care more about politics than the Kingdom of God we have literally gone off the rails. I know there are a lot of Christians in America that are securely riding down the Kingdom tracks, however I know many that have run off into the ditch of politics. Politics cannot save us or heal us or restore us. Jesus came to serve us, save us, heal us, and restore us. Our politicization and our screaming only leads to more distance, schisms, and hatred. The intent of the blog was to be funny, subtle and sarcastic. I’ll step off of my soapbox now and I’ll try to be more intentional next time.

You have the right to vent once in a while, it’s your blog. You are right on this topic, BTW. Our pastor is constantly having to reign our congregation in from this path. Thanks for your insight.

Thank you, this is very timely! I’ve been called out by a good friend recently for my lack of political-ness. I’d rather follow Jesus than an agenda
