In the mid 1960s the British invaded our music charts. The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, The Dave Clark Five, Herman’s Hermits and the Animals changed the landscape of music in America. England and all things English appeal to me. I’ve heard it’s a good place to be from or to revolt against. I absolutely love a British accent, therefore my peloton instructor is British. He is very cheeky and keen. I spend a good three and half hours with him each week and I never grow tired of his innuendo and pronunciations.
The Open Championship
Royal Liverpool Golf Club is hosting the 151st Open Championship this week. Liverpool produces great golf courses and legendary musicians. I love the Open because it is mostly played on links courses that meander along the sea and are allowed to play according to the conditions that the weather dictates. Sunshine may be scarce. The wind will blow. It will rain sideways. As a result the Open is quite a contrast to the perfect conditions and manicured grounds that we play on here in the states.
Everybody Is Getting In
I am not the only one who is longing for Great Britain. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney own Wrexam, the oldest Welsh football team. Several NFL owners own English Premier League teams and J.J. Watt has purchased and interest in Burnley FC. Not coincidentally, there will be 3 NFL games played in England this fall. They love our football. We are learning to love their football. All things English appeal to me. I’m loving it! Now, off you pop!
