I’m Here For the Game and the Ads

Super Bowl Sunday is a huge day in America. 100 million Americans will watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, conversely 92 million Americans will attend church. Americans love football and are suckers for a good commercial. The Chiefs take on the Eagles at 6:30 PM Eastern on Fox. Get your popcorn, nachos and favorite beverage ready.

I Love Football

I love football and I will be watching the game intently. Football is fast and furious. In my opinion, today’s game could use a little more fury. It’s a little soft for my taste, that notwithstanding I still love the game. My mom and dad grew up in West Texas. As Walker Hayes says in his song Y’all Life, it’s all about Jesus and football down there. Tumbleweeds, horned frogs, and massive High School football stadiums dot the landscape. Football is in my blood. My dad always said that “football is the fourth part of the Trinity” in Texas. The preacher must end his sermon on time because the Dallas Cowboys kick off at Noon central time. Super Bowl LVII will captivate me on Sunday. (By the way, it’s time to ditch the Roman numerals.)

I’m Here For the Game and the Ads

In addition, I love the commercials almost as much as I love the football. I’m here for the game and the ads. 43% of Americans say that they tune into the Super Bowl for the ads. The commercial lineup looks to be stellar once more. Most notably, this sneak peek piqued my interest.

Jesus Is In the Super Bowl

And finally, a brand new ad campaign will put Jesus in the Super Bowl this year. He Gets Us hopes to be the first step in the faith journey for Americans who, in effect, have never considered Jesus or have moved further away from Jesus. Consequently, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts and Rockstars will not be the biggest stars on the biggest stage. Every so often the world turns upside down.
